The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team is getting a double dose of Class 5 competition this week, playing old rival North Bend.

The aggressive Vikings got in the first jab Wednesday, rolling to a 64-34 nonleague victory at Glenn Butler Court.

It marked the first meeting between the two teams in more than three years, when the Vikings pulled out a 58-55 Far West League victory over the Bulldogs at North Bend in the next-to-last game of the season.

It was Feb. 13, 2018, the last time they met. That was 1,191 days between games for the long-time coast rivals.

The two teams won't wait that long to play again. North Bend hosts a rematch Friday, scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. tipoff.

Juniors Braydon Thornton and Brody Terry once again led the Vikings scoring, Thornton a team-high 16 and Terry 11.

Ten of the 11 Vikings who played scored and six had at least one 3-point goal.

Brady Messner, who hit three 3-pointers, led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

Siuslaw, 2-0, opens Sky-Em League play Tuesday at Marist. Tipoff is 5:45 p.m.

Elsewhere Wednesday, Pleasant Hill took out its frustration from an overtime loss to Siuslaw to beat Sky-Em League member Elmira, 55-9. (Yes, 55-9, according to OSAA website.)
