11th annual SOS tourney proves many care

The I Don't Cares captured the 11th annual Siuslaw Open Benefit Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Florence Golf Links.

Proving many care, the tournament raised more than $13,000 for Siuslaw Outreach Services, which provides programs for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking and homelessness.

The foursome of Justin Mans, AJ Davidson, Jake Wells and Jeff Noonan — competing as The I Don't Cares — won on a tiebreaker.

"We were pleasantly surprised how much the community stepped up," tournament co-chair Justin Young said.

"We had concerns going in that changing the date and the uncertainty of covid that this could be a a down year. This was a record turnout."

SOS executive director Bob Teter was equally ebullient.

"The success of this event will help us help many families who are struggling," Teter said.

Second place went to Donald & The Three Seamen (Terry Bruns, Rich Jenson, Kyle Wolf and Donald Chipman) and third place to Off Constantly (Jason Hoffman, Travis Elam, Keifer Allen and Travis Hoffman).

The top three all tied with a score of 57 in the Calloway event, with the final order based on a tie breaking system.

Mike Caldwell won the event's Putt-off, taking the $100 prize and trophy.

Donald Chipman's name was drawn for they attempt at a $10,000 prize for sinking a 60-foot putt. He missed by inches.

AJ Davidson won men's long drive, while Elisha Young and Veronica Thompson tied for women's long drive.

Jim Achison won men's KP on hole No. 11.

The event featured 88 golfers, 18 volunteers and 35 sponsors, according to an SOS release.
