The Siuslaw Vikings wrestling team won two of three duals Wednesday at the Sweet Home Region 2 Duals.

The Vikings beat Junction City, 36-25, and North Marion, 51-12.

Sweet Home beat Siuslaw, 72-12.

"We had a good tournament," Siuslaw coach Neil Wartnik said. "We got roughed up a bit by Sweet Home, and stalwarts Elijah LaCosse and Mason Buss had tough matchups against Junction City and Sweet Home."

The Sweet Home event was the fourth tournament in six days, from Sutherlin last Friday, to Marshfield on Saturday to the Siuslaw Home Duals on Tuesday.

"I have never had a team endure such a grueling six-day stretch," Wartnik said. "I am very pleased with how we performed."

Seniors Ryan Jennings and Christian Newlan scored pins for the Vikings' only wins against Sweet Home.

Wartnik credited Hayden Muller, John Corser, Hunter Petterson and Cort Waggoner with good nights.

"Hayden pinned her Sweet Home opponent who placed fourth at state last year in the 120-pound bracket," Wartnik said, noting Muller was fourth at state at 135. "She also pinned her male opponent in the North Marion varsity dual."

Corser was 2-0 on the night; Petterson 2-1, including a 3-2 victory after an impressive takedown in the last 30 seconds of the match, and Waggoner, a promising freshman, went 3-1 wrestling junior varsity.

"We also have had steady contributions from Yoskar Delamora, Cayden Gray and JC Gentry," Wartnik said. "Really, the entire team is doing a great job.

"The coaching staff is pleased with the squad. They have been tested, and they have proven courageous, coachable and determined.

"Most impressive has been their sportsmanship."

The Vikings' next scheduled match is the North Bend Invitational at noon Saturday, June 5.
