It's full speed ahead for the Siuslaw Vikings soccer team this fall, with the opening match less than three months away.

"The full schedule is now done, both varsity and junior varsity," Siuslaw coach Londi Tomaro said.

"I'm looking forward to a regular season. I'm hopeful."

The most-recent season, a truncated nine-match schedule, was a season of many firsts.

It was the first season at the varsity level for soccer at Siuslaw.

The Vikings got their first win and first home win, 4-0 over Elmira on March 11.

The Vikings got their first road win, a comeback, 4-3 victory at Junction City on March 25.

But with nine matches, all in the Sky-Em League, it was not the full experience that awaits the Vikings this fall.

Siuslaw has 14 matches scheduled, including 10 in league.

The Vikings open play Aug. 26 at Newport/Eddyville Charter.

Siuslaw hosts Creswell on Sept. 1 in the its home opener. The Vikings play Sept. 6 at North Bend and host Pleasant Hill on Sept. 20 16 to complete preleague play.

Siuslaw's second season of league play begins Sept. 20 at Marist.

VIKINGS FUNDRAISER

The fundraising campaign for perimeter netting for the Vikings' field on 27th Street continues.

The drive was given a $4,000 boost by the Western Lane Community Foundation. Sponsor sections are being sold for $250, $500 and $1,000.

Soccer and junior varsity baseball share the same field, so the 20-foot barrier will need a special netting. The cost is expected to be between $30,000 and $40,000.
