The Siuslaw Vikings boys wrestling team split dual meets Tuesday at the Region 2 Elmira Duals at Elmira.

The Vikings beat Elmira/Crow, 36-24, and lost to Philomath/Alsea, 45-15.

"We outwrestled Elmira," Siuslaw coach Neil Wartnik said. "This dual featured big wins by Hunter Petterson and Michael Shick, both coming from behind, and JC Gentry.

"Christian Newlan had a solid match. He dominated. Elijah LaCosse also had an important victory."

Petterson, LaCosse and Mason Buss were winners against Philomath.

"Philomath outwrestled us last night," Wartnik said. "Hunter Petterson had an impressive victory, avenging a loss to Caleb Blackburn that prevented him from qualifying for state."

The Lady Vikings also had a couple of outstanding performances.

"Arrianna Brown and Hayden Muller were dominant," Wartnik said.

Brown won by decision over Liberty Barklow of Elmira/Crow, 13-8, and by major decision over Summer McKeen, Elmira/Crow, 12-0.

Barklow and McKeen both scored pins over Madison Petterson of Siuslaw.

Muller pinned Katarina Jentzsch of Elmira/Crow in 1:01.

The Vikings are scheduled to wrestle at North Bend at noon Saturday.

Regional and state meets have been added to the schedule.

The boys regional is June 17 at Sweet Home and the state championships June 25-26 at Cascade.

The girls regional is June 18 and the state championships June 24, both at Thurston in Springfield.
