Vikings rally to to take down Lions, 53-46


Siuslaw senior Liam McClellan contributed 11 points, connecting on three 3-point goals.

The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit Thursday to claim a 53-46 victory at Cottage Grove.

The Vikings close the first half of Sky-Em League play 3-2 in league and 6-2 overall.

Siuslaw hosts Marist at 3 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Butler Court.

Juniors Brody Terry (19 points) and Braydon Thornton (14) combined for 43 points and senior Liam McClellan added 11 to lead the Vikings.

Terry had 14 of his points in the first half, Thornton all 14 of his points in the second half.

It was a tale of two halves for the Vikings, who at one point in the first half surrendered 18 straight points, the last 11 of the first quarter and the first 7 of the second.

Siuslaw went from a 10-6 lead to a 24-10 deficit. Terry hit a pair of 3-pointers to pull the Vikings within 10 at the break, 28-18.

Siuslaw scored the first eight points of the third quarter and 13 of the first 14 to pull ahead 31-29 on a 3-pointer by Thornton with under 3 minutes left in the period.

The Vikings took a one-point lead, 36-35, into the fourth quarter.

Thornton had 7 points and McClellan 5 to help Siuslaw open the lead to five points, 48-43, with under 4 minutes to play.

Terry hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch as the Vikings went ahead by 10, 53-43. A 3-pointer by the Lions in the waning seconds resulted in the final score.

Junior Jayden Cameron led the Lions with 16, 6-foot-4 sophomore Brennen Murphy at 11 and junior Ty Kisen 10.

Elsewhere in the Sky-Em on Thursday, unbeaten Junction City hammered visiting Marshfield, 67-48, and Marist rolled at Elmira, 56-26.
