Pirates make Vikings walk the plank, 61-24


The Marshfield Pirates all-but-scuttled the Siuslaw Vikings playoff hopes Tuesday with a 61-24 Sky-Em League boys basketball victory in Coos Bay.

Siuslaw fell to 6-4 overall and 3-4 in league.

The Vikings host Elmira at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, then close the season with three games next week — Tuesday at Junction City, Thursday at home against Cottage Grove and Friday at home against Bandon.

Siuslaw played short-handed, with four players out sick, including Jacob Foskett, Braydon Thornton, Harrison Hubner and Aiden Jefferis.

The Vikings lost junior post Avery Hart to injury early in the second half and had three players foul out.

Marshfield dominated the second half, holding the Vikings scoreless in the third quarter and limiting them to 3 points in the fourth quarter to take the second half, 31-3.

Siuslaw stayed within striking distance in the first half, trailing 30-21 at the break.

Senior Liam McClellan sank three 3-pointers to lead the Vikings with 9 points. Junior Brody Terry had 8 and Hart 7.

Junior Pierce Davidson had a game-high 21 for the Pirates.
