Siuslaw seniors Elijah LaCosse and Christian Newlan and sophomore Hunter Petterson scored second-place finishes Thursday in the OSAA 4A Special District 2 wrestling championships at Sweet Home.

The Vikings were third in the eight-school field with 162.5 points, behind first-place Sweet Home with 429.5 and runner-up Philomath with 203.

LaCosse (145 pounds) scored 22 of the Vikings' team points, while Newlan (220) and Petterson (132) had 20 each.

Mason Buss was third at 170 for 18 points, while Yoskar De la Mora (120), Ryan Jennings (160), Dayne Muller (182) and JC Gentry (220) each placed fourth.

The top four in each of the four districts traditionally advance to the state championships, which will be June 25-26 at Cascade.

Cascade was fourth place with 151, followed by Junction City at 137.5, Elmira at 124, Stayton at 117 and Newport at 10.
