Registration closes Friday for next week's Junior Kickers Vikings Soccer Camp at the Siuslaw High School field.

The week-long camp for incoming second- through eighth-graders runs 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the Siuslaw field.

"We look forward to running the camp for the first time," Siuslaw coach Londi Tomaro said. "It should be a lot of fun."

Fee is $60. Forms are available through Tomaro (ltomaro@siuslaw.k12.or.us) or at Pacific Frameworks, 2420 Highway 101.

All three Vikings assistant coaches — Nyra Campbell, Kaleena Jensen and Amy Tregoning — will help run the camp, with an assist from high school team members.

In other soccer news, the program's netting project continues to progress.

"We have enough funding to put backstop netting behind both goals," Tomaro said. "It should be here soon, and I am projecting it will be up by the time our season starts."

The ultimate goal is to surround the field with netting to keep balls from flying into traffic on 27th and Oak.

Funding was provided by the Western Lane Community Foundation, Nosh Eatery and the Holmes families of Kodiak, Alaska, and Troy, Virginia.

Tomaro is expecting a good turnout for fall soccer at the high school.

"We have a large group of incoming ninth graders joining the team this year," Tomaro said. "I anticipate having close to 30 players, and we expect to play a full season for both junior varsity and varsity teams."

Fall practice begins Aug. 16 — just two weeks from this coming Monday.
