When the Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team opens fall practice Monday it will be with the third head coach in as many seasons.

Kari Blake is replacing Ashlee Cole, who replaced Jonathan Hornung earlier this year for the truncated 2020-21 season, March 1 to April 1.

Blake was the junior varsity assistant coach last season.

"Kari knows the current team very well," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson said. "She coached them in 12U-14U club.

"She also has three years experience helping with the Siuslaw High School volleyball program. She will bring some continuity to the program."

The Lady Vikings were 6-4 last season, and lost just one player to graduation.

Oddly enough that was Blake's daughter, Kya Blake, who was a Sky-Em League all-star second-team selection.

Siuslaw returns two all-stars, first-team Desiree Tupua, a junior, and second-team Hayden Muller, a senior.

First match is Thursday, Aug. 26, when the Lady Vikings play Philomath at Sweet Home in a season-opening jamboree.
