The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team will get the weekend off thanks to the covid pandemic.

"Due to concerns over Covid-19, Newport has canceled the volleyball tournament scheduled for the weekend," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson announced via email Tuesday night.

Other events appear in limbo as the fall season approaches, including Siuslaw's football season opener Sept. 3 against South Umpqua at Hans Petersen Memorial Field.

Siuslaw suspended football activities Sunday due to positive covid test results for two Vikings.

The volleyball team is scheduled to open its season Thursday at Sweet Home against Philomath.

The Siuslaw soccer team is scheduled to open its season Thursday at Newport.

Siuslaw cross country is scheduled to open its season Friday, Sept. 10, at the Country Fair Classic in Veneta.
