Vikings to open day later at a new venue

The Siuslaw Vikings cross country teams will be starting their seasons a day later than expected, and at another venue.

"Cross country will open on Sept. 11 at the Ash Creek Invitational at Western Oregon University," athletic director Chris Johnson announced Tuesday night.

"The Country Fair Classic (Sept. 10 in Veneta) has been canceled."

The Vikings boys and girls are defending state and Sky-Em League champions.

The girls have six athletes on the roster, including three freshmen — Addison McNeill, Macy McNeill and Maya Wells.

The Lady Vikings return three scorers from last season — senior Rylee Colton and sophomores Corduroy Holbrook and Jane Lacouture.

Six of the seven boys who ran at state last spring return, including senior Chad Hughes, juniors Kyle Hughes, Samuel Ulrich and Jacob Blankenship and sophomores Brayden Linton and Dylan Jensen.

Rounding out the boys team are junior Cayden Gray and sophomore Talan Ross.
