Vikings lose another game to a cancelation

Then there were six.

That's the number of games of the Siuslaw Vikings football schedule after Brookings-Harbor decided Wednesday to not play this season.

"Brookings-Harbor High School just pulled the plug on their football season," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson said in an email release.

"We are currently looking for a replacement game. Both the varsity game down there and the JV game here are canceled."

Siuslaw had a nine-game schedule for a short while.

It became eight games when Harrisburg pulled out of an Oct. 1 game with the intent of playing down to an all-2A schedule.

It became seven games earlier this week when Siuslaw was forced to cancel its season opener Sept. 3 against South Umpqua due to Vikings players testing positive to covid.

Now, at least temporarily, it is six games, the same number the Vikings played in a truncated season last spring.

For now, Siuslaw will open its season Sept. 17 at Sisters, followed by a Sept. 24 game at Gladstone.

The Vikings then play their only home games, Oct. 8 against La Pine and Oct. 14 (a Thursday) against Pleasant Hill.

Siuslaw then closes its regular season with a game Oct. 22 against Santiam Christian at Adair Village and a game Oct. 29 at Junction City.
