Thompson in home stretch with Sea Dogs

Siuslaw graduate Jake Thompson is finishing strong heading into the final three weeks of the minor league baseball regular season with the Portland (Maine) Sea Dogs, the Boston Red Sox's AA affiliate.

The 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher, still working his way back from Tommy John surgery, is 2-0 with a 4.07 earned run average in 23 appearances with the Sea Dogs.

Thompson has given up just three earned runs over 14 innings of relief since July 1, a 1.93 ERA.

Portland's regular season ends Sunday, Sept. 19, three days before the Florence-born Thompson celebrates his 27th birthday.
