Vikings boys 11th, girls 18th at Ash Creek

The Siuslaw Vikings boys were 11th and the girls 18th Saturday in the all-division Ash Creek Cross Country Festival in Monmouth.

Senior Chad Hughes was 39th overall in 16 minutes, 29.60 seconds for 5,000 meters for the best time for the Siuslaw boys.

Hughes was just 10 seconds off his personal record of 16:19.4 clocked in last spring's state championship, won by the Vikings.

Vikings junior Samuel Ulrich was 42nd in 16:33.60, junior Kyle Hughes 57th in 17:05.60, junior Jacob Blankenship 120th in 18:20.20 and sophomore Dylan Jensen 137th in 18:45.40.

Sophomore Talan Ross was 144th in 19:00.20 and sophomore Brayden Linton 160th in 19:21.20.

Jesuit dominated the boys race, first with 40 points to runner-up Lincoln's 77. Tualatin senior Caleb Lakeman won the individual title in 14:58.50.

For the girls, three Siuslaw freshmen scored.

Vikings senior Rylee Colton was 57th in 20:56.40, freshman Addison McNeill 105th in 22:48.40, sophomore Jane Lacouture 109th in 22:56.40, freshman Maya Wells 125th in 23:27.10 and freshman Macy McNeill 131st in 23:43.30.

Sophomore Corduroy Holbrook was 141st in 23:57.50.

Summit and Jesuit were 1-2 in the girls team race, while Jesuit senior Chloe Foerster won the girls title in 17:24.50.

Some 255 boys finished in the varsity 5,000 meters, 196 in the girls.
