The No. 3-ranked Tillamook Cheesemakers scored four goals in the first half Monday en route to a 5-0 boys soccer victory at the Siuslaw Vikings.

Siuslaw (1-2) hosts Pleasant Hill on Thursday in its final tuneup match ahead of beginning Sky-Em League play next week.

The varsity play at 7:30 p.m., the junior varsity at 5:30.

"Overall, our team played well and showed good potential for the rest of the season," Siuslaw coach Londi Tomaro said.

"There were a few things we noted that were a little rusty, and we'll be working on those over the next week before league play begins."

Siuslaw goalkeepers were kept busy while the Vikings offense struggled to put pressure on the Cheesemakers.

Siuslaw sophomore goalie Derrick Vanduch had five saves in the first half and senior Kayden Lane four saves in the second.

"We managed to hold our own against Tillamook's physicality," Tomaro said. "We were not able to create many scoring opportunities, and the shots we did get were saved by the Tillamook goalkeeper."

So it's back to the practice field.

"We'll focus on first touches, controlling the ball in the air, and passing out of trouble," Tomaro said.

Earlier Monday, the junior varsity posted its first win. The final score was not available.

"The (JV) team worked well together," Tomaro said. "The forwards especially had great passing sequences throughout the game and capitalized on scoring opportunities."
