Vikings boys dominant at Northwest Classic

The Siuslaw Vikings boys cross country team took no prisoners Saturday at the Northwest Classic at Lane Community College in Eugene.

With three runners in the top eight, the Vikings ran off with the 1A/2A/3A/4A title with 59 points, leaving the rest of the field in the penalty box.

Valley Catholic was well back in second with 112 and Philomath was third with 138.

Siuslaw senior Chad Hughes was fourth overall for the top Vikings time of 16 minutes, 40.2 seconds.

Junior Samuel Ulrich was fifth overall in 16:40.4, junior Kyle Hughes eighth in 16:54.0, sophomore Brayden Linton 19th in 17:51.9 and sophomore Dylan Jensen 23rd in 18:01.9.

Sophomore Talan Ross was 25th in 18:04.3 and junior Jacob Blankenship 26th in 18:04.4.

Marshfield junior Alexander Garcia-Silver was first in 15:55.0, Philomath junior Brody Bushnell third in 16:23.7 and Phoenix senior Elwood Hosting third in 16:36.8.

The Siuslaw boys are the defending 4A state champions.

Siuslaw's next event is the Nike Portland this coming Saturday at Blue Lake Regional Park.
