Vikings shooters ready to fire up this week

The Siuslaw Vikings clay-target shooting team fires up for the fall season this week with its first outing at the Siuslaw Rod and Gun Club.

The fall team is 10 strong, from eighth-grader Karmyn Kyelberg to seniors Madeleine Danielsson and Morgan Delle.

The balance of the team includes freshmen Terry Elliott, Sylas Gorder and Kyler Hammerberg, sophomores Erik Danielsson, Malakai Kirk and Hunter Pimlott and junior Wade Richmond.

The team is coached by Sean Grundon, an eighth-grade math teacher at Siuslaw Middle School.

The Siuslaw Clay Target League team made its debut last spring.

Team membership is open to grades 6 through 12. Students must possess a league-approved Firearm Safety Certification and meet all school curricular activity eligibility requirements.

The six-week fall league includes a practice week and five weeks of competition, ending the week beginning Oct. 24.

Final results will be announced Oct. 31.
