Siuslaw's volleyball loss Thursday to visiting Marshfield may go down this season as the one that got away.

The Lady Vikings lost in five, 16-25, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 15-10, to fall to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the Sky-Em League.

"I'm not going to lie, that loss was a tough pill to swallow," Siuslaw coach Kari Blake said. "It will be a long road in league from here with an early loss."

Siuslaw looks to regroup with a match Tuesday at Elmira and at home next Thursday against Junction City.

"I have full faith in the girls and their ability to bounce back," Blake said. "I have no doubt these girls will take the lessons learned from tonight and keep moving forward towards their goals."

The Lady Vikings got off to a great start, winning the opening set easily, stumbling a bit in the second set, and then building a 2-1 lead through three sets.

The Lady Pirates (4-3, 1-1) pulled out the fourth set in overtime and then put it away in the fifth.

"The (Lady Vikings) came out strong right out of the gate, gained an early lead and really made an impression," Blake said. "They were communicating well, making smart decisions and working their tails off.

"We got some big kills from Desi Tupua and Mylee Blake, and the energy in the gym was definitely fueling their momentum."

Marshfield hushed the crowd with a win in the second set to draw even.

"We got off to a slow start in the second set, and just never really found that consistency that we had in the first set," Blake said.

Freshman outside hitter Mylee Blake had 15 kills to lead the team, followed by junior middle blocker Desi Tupua with 14 and junior outside hitter Hailee Outlaw with 7.

Senior middle blocker Alizabeth Norton and freshman middle blocker Rhianna Lane had 4 blocks each and Tupua 3.

Elsewhere in Sky-Em play, Marist (3-5, 1-1) surprised visiting Junction City (9-2, 1-1) in five, 25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 12-25, 15-11, and Cottage Grove (7-2, 2-0) swept visiting Elmira (0-7, 0-2), 25-15, 25-13, 25-16.
