The Siuslaw Vikings baseball team will do something March 18, 2022, that it hasn't done since March 26, 2019.

The Vikings will play a nonleague opponent, in this case a doubleheader at Sutherlin.

Siuslaw's last nonleague game was against Neah-Kah-Nie as a final tuneup for the 2019 Sky-Em League season.

There were no games in 2020 due to the pandemic and a league-only schedule this past spring.

Next spring's schedule, still a work in progress, includes a complete list of 15 league games, beginning with a home date April 12 against Marist.

Siuslaw lost four varsity players to graduation — Elijah Blankenship, Chayton James, Clay Kramer and Dalton Stinger.

Underclassmen on last spring's varsity included now-seniors Beau Erickson, Isaac Garza, Ethan Aaron, Henry Rankin and Jason Garcia,  now-juniors Noah Dotson, Victor Reyna-Ayala and Ian Sissel and now-sophomores Andrew Jensen-Norman and Armando Galvan-Mendez.

Sissel was second-team all-league last spring, while Erickson was honorable mention.

Tom Shinn returns as head coach, assisted by Dan Rankin and Mike Dannewitz.

Jim Baxter is junior varsity head coach.
