The Siuslaw Vikings soccer team's offensive struggles continued Monday with a 3-1 Sky-Em League loss at Junction City.

The Vikings (1-6 overall, 0-3 in league) play at Elmira on Wednesday, with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.

Elmira is 0-6 and 0-3, losing Monday at Marshfield (3-2, 3-0), 9-1. Elsewhere, Cottage Grove (4-2-1, 3-0) beat visiting Marist (2-4-1 2-1), 4-1.

Siuslaw senior midfielder Jason Garcia scored the Vikings' lone goal Monday on an assist from sophomore forward Braxton Hulet.

Siuslaw has logged a total of nine goals in seven matches this season, four by Garcia.

"We scored first on a beautiful drop pass assist by Braxton and a powerful one-touch shot by Jason," Siuslaw coach Londi Tomaro said.

Siuslaw's early 1-0 lead did not hold up as the Tigers matched the goal minutes later, then scored second just before halftime.

"We were hopeful that we could even the score and gain the advantage, but the second half proved to be a back and forth battle that did not go our way," Tomaro said.

"Junction City scored a third goal in the first half of the (second) half, and kept our forwards from gaining any meaningful chances in front of the net for the rest of the game."

Siuslaw sophomore goalkeeper Derrick Vanduch had four saves in each half.

Sophomore midfielder Eli Tattershall scored three goals as the Vikings' junior varsity defeated Junction City, 5-3, rallying from a 2-1 halftime deficit. Sophomore forward Ethan Jagoe and freshman forward Nicholas May also scored for Siuslaw.

"The JV had another great game showcasing teamwork and determination," Tomaro said.
