Chad Hughes, Siuslaw triumph at Woahink

Siuslaw senior Chad Hughes ran away with the individual boys title Saturday at the Woahink Invitational cross country race at Honeyman State Park.

Hughes finished in 17 minutes, .5 seconds. Philomath junior Brody Bushnell was second in 17:18.9 and Siuslaw junior Kyle Hughes third in 17:19.2.

Siuslaw won the team title with 62 points to 78 by runner-up Nampa of Idaho. Philomath was third with 85 and Roseburg fourth with 88.

Siuslaw sophomore Dylan Jensen was 17th in 18:27.5, junior Jacob Blankenship 21st in 18:34.6 and sophomore Talan Ross 22nd in 18:38.8.

Siuslaw sophomore Braydon Linton was 24th in 18:53.2.

Siuslaw junior Samuel Ulrich, who won the Nike Portland last week, did not race.

Chad Hughes was easily out front at both the 1-mile and 4.1-kilometer split, leading by more than five seconds and 19 seconds, respectively.

Nampa of Idaho dominated the boys junior varsity, scoring 21 points to 75 by runner-up Roseburg. Siuslaw did not have a runner entered.

SMS VIKINGS FINISH SECOND

The Siuslaw Middle School Vikings boys were second Friday in the five-school Woahink Invitational cross country race at Honeyman State Park.

Marshfield won with 50 points to 54 by Siuslaw. Harbor Lights (Bandon) had 69, Lincoln (Cottage Grove) 80 and North Bend 90.

Siuslaw eighth-grader Kale Jensen was second overall in 11 minutes, 39.11 seconds for the 3,000-meter race. Eighth-grader Myles Head of North Bend won in 11:08.10.
