The Siuslaw Vikings girls basketball team is going back to the future for its new head coach.

Wednesday, former coach Aaron McNeill was named the new head coach for the Lady Vikings.

McNeill is a mathematics teacher at Siuslaw High School.

"McNeill was at the helm the last time the girls participated in the postseason," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson noted in announcing the hiring.

"Aaron has over 17 years of basketball coaching experience at Siuslaw High School, including a five-year run as the head girls basketball coach."

McNeill replaces Ashlee Cole, a Siuslaw High School graduate who coached the Lady Vikings to a 2-9 record last spring.

Siuslaw opens its season Wednesday, Dec. 1, hosting Bandon. Tip off is 5:45 p.m.

First practice is Monday, Nov. 15.
