The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team swept Marist on Thursday, showing they are gearing up for a run for the Sky-Em League title.

"I love when we click and fire on all cylinders like we did tonight," Siuslaw coach Kari Blake, in the wake of a 25-14, 25-13, 25-12 flattening of the Spartans.

"I was so proud of the girls. They really showed amazing teamwork, a lot of hustle and great focus from start to finish."

With four league matches to play, the Lady Vikings are 9-5 overall and 4-2 in league, a game behind league-leading Cottage Grove.

Marshfield swept Cottage Grove in Coos Bay on Thursday and shares second place with Siuslaw.

"Coming off of a tough loss to Cottage Grove, the girls really cleaned up their errors and just played a stellar match," Blake said. 

"It was another real team effort as all 13 varsity players saw court time and each and every one of them had noticeable contributions."

Siuslaw plays at Marshfield on Tuesday, then closes its home schedule Wednesday against winless Elmira on senior night.

The Lady Vikings wrap up league play with a pair of road games, Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Junction City and a possible title game showdown Thursday, Oct. 21, at Cottage Grove.

"Our back row was on point tonight, really reading the court well," Blake said of Thursday's win. "They gave our setters some beautiful passes to work with. 

"Hayden Muller, our senior libero was really focused and almost every ball she passed went to target. Zoe Alberty had another great night setting. Zoe has really found her stride lately; she is laying up beautiful sets to give to our hitters consistently."

Freshman Mylee Blake had 10 kills, junior Desiree Tupua 7 kills to go with 5 blocks and 4 aces and junior Hailee Outlaw 5 kills and 3 aces.

Freshman Rhianna Lane had 5 blocks and 3 kills, while freshman Ashley Hennessee and senior Alizabeth Norton 3 kills each.

Hennessee scored her third kill on match point, while Lane ended the first set with a winner. Siuslaw won the second set on a Marist serving error.

"It was a really fun game, especially in our home gym," Blake said. "The student section was rocking again tonight to help fuel the momentum the girls had.  

"All in all, another great night!"
