When Siuslaw football historian Don Hunt releases his third edition of the history of the Vikings' history-rich program, he may have to devote a separate chapter to Thursday's game against Pleasant Hill.

Final score at Hans Petersen Memorial Field: No. 1-ranked Siuslaw 66, Pleasant Hill 19.

But the historic number was seven, as in touchdown receptions by senior wide receiver Braydon Thornton and TD passes by senior quarterback Beau Erickson.

Thornton's seven TDs is an Oregon state record for 11-man football, according to ORHSsportsrecords.com, a source of state records in several sports. The previous record was five, shared by several players.

Erickson completed 22 of 35 passes for 502 yards. The 502 yards are 11th best in state history, according to the website.

Thornton caught 13 passes for 359 yards, senior Isaac Garza 7 for 121 yards.

The win sets up a showdown Friday, Oct. 22, at Adair Village against Santiam Christian, a team that is 3-0 against the Vikings the past three seasons.

Siuslaw will enter the game 6-0 overall and 3-0 in 3A Special District 2 North. Santiam Christian is 1-2 and 3-3.

The Vikings close their regular season Friday, Oct. 29, at Junction City.

Siuslaw likely will host a first-round playoff game the following Friday or Saturday.

The Vikings wasted no time taking the lead Thursday, scoring 18 seconds into the game on a 74-yard pass play from Erickson to Thornton.

It was the first of five first-half TD passes from Erickson to Thornton as Siuslaw built a 51-13 lead at halftime. Thornton's five TD catches in the first half tied the state record, according to ORHSsportsrecords.com.

The second half was played in running time.

The Vikings were held scoreless in the third quarter, but Erickson hit Thornton for two more TD passes in the fourth quarter.

Siuslaw also scored on two running plays, Camp Lacouture from 5 yards out and Henry Rankin from the 1, both in the second quarter.

Quarterback Matt Dutton threw three TD passes for the Billies.
