The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team moved into first place in the Sky-Em League on Thursday without having to make a serve.

The Lady Vikings, who were idle Thursday after having played Wednesday, now share first place with the Cottage Grove Lions at 6-2.

The Lady Lions were outclawed by the Junction City Tigers at Cottage Grove on Thursday, 17-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20.

The Lady Tigers' triumph has made a four-team race of the Sky-Em with one week left in the regular season.

Junction City and Marshfield are both in the hunt at 5-3.

Curiously enough, the Lady Vikings slipped a notch behind Junction City in the OSAA 4A rankings.

Cottage Grove is No. 6, Junction City No. 8, Siuslaw No. 9 and Marshfield No. 13, as calculated at 5:32 a.m. Friday.

And oddly enough, all four of those schools are scheduled to compete Saturday in the Marshfield Tournament.

Marshfield is scheduled to play North Bend and Reedsport in pool play. The schedule for Siuslaw, Cottage Grove and Junction City has yet to be announced.
