Vikings boys basketball hires an assistant

Brian Carmer has been hired as an assistant basketball coach and social studies teacher at Siuslaw High School.

Veteran coach Brian Carmer has joined head coach Dylan Perry's boys basketball staff as an assistant.

"Carmer comes to Siuslaw with 26 years of high school basketball coaching experience," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson noted Friday in an email announcing the hire.

"Coach Carmer has compiled an overall record of 452-170 as both a head and assistant coach, including two California Interscholastic Federation titles, three CIF runner-up finishes and 12 league titles."

Perry was assisted last spring by Sam Johnson and Nick Johnson. Nick Johnson will serve this coming season as junior varsity coach. Sam Johnson no longer is part of the staff.

Carmer also has joined the Siuslaw High School staff as a social studies teacher.
