The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team tuned for the stretch run of regular-season play Saturday by finishing second in the 16-school Marshfield Tournament in Coos Bay.

The Lady Vikings lost the title game to 5A No. 3-ranked North Bend, 25-21, 30-32, 15-11.

"The girls fought so hard and did an amazing job," Siuslaw coach Kari Blake said. "Our girls certainly made North Bend earn their win."

Siuslaw, tied for first place in the Sky-Em League, travels to Junction City on Tuesday and to co-leader Cottage Grove on Thursday to complete league and regular-season play.

The Lady Vikings opened the tournament by winning all three pool matches by 2-0 scores over Cottage Grove, Brookings-Harbor and Myrtle Point.

Siuslaw had a first-round bye in bracket play, then beat Junction City 25-18, 21-25, 17-15 and Marshfield 27-25, 25-21 to advance to the championship game.

"The girls played three bracket games back to back to back, with no rest between," Blake said.

"To say I am proud of the grit these girls have is an understatement."
