Chad Hughes wins annual Run for Brownies

Siuslaw had seven runners place in the top nine, led by individual winner Chad Hughes, as the Vikings boys won the three-school Run for the Brownies on Thursday at the Florence Golf Links.

Hughes, a senior, won in 9 minutes, 39 seconds as the Vikings scored 16 to easily outdistance Marshfield at 46 and Waldport at 83.

Vikings junior occupied the next three places, Samuel Ulrich finishing in 9:55, Kyle Hughes in 10:23 and Jacob Blankenship fourth in 10:26.

Siuslaw's three sophomore boys placed sixth, seventh and ninth, Dylan Jensen in 10:41, Talan Ross in 10:46 and Brayden Linton in 10:51.

Siuslaw senior Rylee Colton had the top girls time, 11th overall, finishing in 11:34.

Lady Vikings filled the top five placings and six of seven overall.

Freshman Addison McNeill ran 12:13, sophomore Corduroy Holbrook 12:31, sophomore Jane Lacouture 12:36, freshman Maya Wells 12:41 and freshman Macy McNeill 12:52.

The Lady Vikings won the team title by default, with Marshfield entering three runners and Waldport two.

The Sky-Em League Championships are up next for the Vikings, to be held Thursday, Oct. 28, at Lane Community College in Eugene.

The OSAA 4A State Championships are Saturday, Nov. 6, at the same venue.

Athletic.net's most-recent hypothetical finish has the Siuslaw boys winning with 32 points to 59 by runner-up Cottage Grove, while the Marist girls have a slight edge over the Lady Vikings, 29-38.

The Siuslaw boys and girls are defending 4A state champions.
