Win at Banks, Siuslaw goes to North Marion

Banks. North Marion. Likely Sisters. Corvallis.

The championship road for the Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team is becoming clearer by the day.

"It looks like we go to North Marion with a win (Tuesday at Banks)," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson said Monday.

"League champions are guaranteed a home playoff game, so we get bumped (from No. 8) to ninth."

Siuslaw and Banks pair off at 6:30 p.m. at Banks in a play-in game available online on both the NFHS Network and Westside Mobile Media (https://twitter.com/westmobilmedia/status/1452102315943424006?s=20).

Johnson expects tickets to be available on a walk-in basis. The OSAA will team with hometownticketing.com for first round matches and beyond.

"I've been watching some film on Banks, and we should be fine if we play our typical game," Siuslaw coach Kari Blake said. "We don't want to go into the match too over confident and we will be working on keeping our focus throughout the match.

"Banks seems to run at a slower pace than we do, so if we can keep our tempo up and our errors at a minimum, we should be able to come home with a win."

The Lady Vikings, No. 8 in the final OSAA 4A rankings, will need to beat two lower-seeded teams on the road.

Banks, 5-13, the No. 3 team from the Cowapa League, is ranked No. 25 — the lowest ranked team in the postseason.

North Marion, 12-6, the Tri-Valley Conference champion, is ranked No. 11 — the lowest ranked team of the six 4A league champions.

In the OSAA's Adjusted Playoff Ranking for the 16-team championship bracket, North Marion moves to No. 8 as a league champion, pushing Siuslaw to No. 9.

Should Siuslaw survive Banks and North Marion, top-seeded Sisters likely awaits in a Round 1 match Tuesday, Nov. 2. Sisters, if it wins as expected Saturday, is slotted to play the winner of No. 8 vs. No. 9 at home in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Should the Lady Vikings beyond Sisters, the final four teams play the semifinals and finals Nov. 5 and 6 at Corvallis High School.
