The Siuslaw Vikings have advanced to the semifinals of the OSAA 3A football playoffs.

The No. 1-seeded Vikings ran their record to 10-0 Friday with a 28-23 victory over the No. 8-seeded Cascade Christian Challengers of Medford at Hans Petersen Memorial Field.

Cascade Christian won the unofficial 3A title last spring with a 13-10 win over Santiam Christian at Cottage Grove.

Siuslaw will play the winner of the La Pine-Warrenton game next weekend at a neutral field, likely Hillsboro if against Warrenton or Cottage Grove if against La Pine.

Warrenton hosts La Pine at CMH Field in Astoria on Saturday. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

Siuslaw senior Braydon Thornton apparrently found yet another way to score Friday, plopping on a loose ball in the end zone with 7:42 to play as the Vikings built a 28-17 lead.

Vikings running back Ian Sissel appeared to lose the ball just short of the end zone, trying to score from the 6. The TD ended an eight-play, 50-yard drive. The conversion run failed.

The Challengers, who lost 38-34 at Siuslaw earlier in the season, fought back with an eight-play, 60-yard drive to make it 28-23, junior running back Triston Wallace scoring from the 9.

Going for two points, Challengers junior quarterback Keith Reed was sacked before he could launch a pass.

Cascade Christian attempted an on-side kick, but the Vikings took over on their own 49 and ran out the final 3 minutes and 15 seconds of the game.

The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter, Siuslaw opening the second half with an 11-play, 65-yard drive.

Vikings senior running back Camp Lacouture scored on a 4-yard run and senior quarterback Beau Erickson ran in the 2-point conversion for a 22-10 lead.

The Challengers matched that with an 11-play, 78-yard drive, with Reed punching it in from the 1. Junior place-kicker JT Knobloch-Scott converted the kick to make it 22-17 Siuslaw through three quarters.

The Vikings took a 14-10 lead at halftime after Erickson scored on a 5-yard run at 4:47 of the second quarter. The score completed a 15-play, 62-yard drive. The 2-point conversion pass failed.

Cascade Christian took a 10-8 lead early in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Wallace at 11:13. The TD came on a nine-play, 70-yard drive. Knobloch-Scott converted the extra-point kick.

Siuslaw had the ball only 30 seconds of the first quarter but led 8-3 on a 53-yard touchdown run by Erickson. Erickson bulled into the end zone for a 2-point conversion with 4:05 left in the quarter.

It took the Vikings two plays to go 75 yards, Erickson's TD set up on a 22-yard run by Lacouture.

The Challengers opened the game with a 14-play, 58-yard drive capped by a 30-yard field goal by Knobloch-Scott at the 4:35 mark.
