Sam Ulrich, Wakonda boys third in regionals

Siuslaw junior Samuel Ulrich was third to lead the Wakonda boys of Florence to a third-place in the 2021 Pacific Northwest Regional XC Showcase at Arlington, Wash., near Seattle.

The Wakonda girls were fifth place.

Ulrich was the top-scoring member of a team, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 30.6 seconds.

Tommy O'Neil of Canby Project won in 16:19.0 and Benjamin Bourne, running unattached, was second in 16:21.6.

Siuslaw senior Chad Hughes was ninth (third in scoring) in 16:38.4, junior Kyle Hughes 19th (8th) in 16:48.4, Brayden Linton 59th (42nd) in 17:42.4 and junior Jacob Blankenship 62nd (44th) in 17:45.5.

Siuslaw had 98 points in the small/large school division, while Forest Park won with 76 and Mead Harriers was second with 78.

The Siuslaw girls had 133 points for fifth. Stumptown XC Club of Portland was first with 36.

Wakonda was first in both the boys and girls small-schools points.

Freshman Addison McNeill had the top time for the Wakonda girls of 20:49.2, 12th in scoring.

Corduroy Holbrook ran 21:06.2 (39/18), Macy McNeill 21:15.5 (42/21), Maya Wells 22:28.0 (69/40) and Jane Lacouture 22:50.8 (75/42).

Senior Rylee Colton did not run.
