It's Siuslaw vs. South Umpqua for 3A crown

The Siuslaw Vikings (11-0) and South Umpqua Lancers (11-1) are going back to the future with a state football title on the line Saturday, matching the schools who battled to a scoreless tie in the OSAA AA football final in 1981.

Kickoff for the OSAA Class 3A title is 11 a.m. at Cottage Grove.

Saturday, the Vikings eliminated La Pine at Cottage Grove, 28-26, and the Lancers ousted Vale at Bend, 24-21, in the semifinals.

Siuslaw senior running back Camp Lacouture rushed for four touchdowns Saturday, a pair of 1-yard dives in the first half, a 15-yard run in the third quarter and a 30-yard gallop in the fourth quarter. He finished with 168 yards on 21 carries.

The Hawks did not go easily, pulling within two points with a TD pass with 3:41 to play. The Vikings stopped the 2-point conversion pass, then ran out the clock for the win.

Siuslaw had with 424 yards in total offense to 270 for La Pine. Vikings senior quarterback Beau Erickson was 7 of 10 for 141 yards.

German exchange student Juri Moros hit a 28-yard field goal with 18 seconds to play to lift South Umpqua to victory.

The Vikings will be in their fifth state final ... Siuslaw lost to Pleasant Hill in the 1974 AA final, 22-13; tied South Umpqua for a share of the 1981 AA title, 0-0; beat Sisters in the 2006 4A final, 21-14 in overtime, and lost to La Salle in the 2011 4A final, 45-40. ...
