The Siuslaw wrestling team has 15 boys and 8 girls entered in the Perry Burlison Tournament as the Vikings prepare for their season opener Saturday at Cascade High School in Turner.

"The group is doing an outstanding job in practice," Siuslaw coach Neil Wartnik said Thursday. "We're having fun."

The Lady Vikings will be near full strength for their tournament, while the boys will be missing some contributors.

"We're taking a truncated group of boys," Wartnik said. "We have a couple of our football players resting this week.

"A few boys are sick, and a couple boys are not eligible yet."

The Vikings have three more matches before the end of the calendar year, Dec. 10-11 at North Bend, Dec. 17-18 at Grants Pass and Dec. 22 at Marshfield.

There are four events at Siuslaw in the new year, including the Sky-Em Dual Meet Championships Jan. 6, the Nick Lutz Memorial Tournament Jan. 15, a dual meet with Stayton Feb. 3 and the District 2 Regional Feb. 11-12.
