Seniors Brody Terry (18) and Avery Hart (15) combined for 33 points Friday to help the Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball road show got off to a good start — a 60-43 victory at Newport.

"Great second game of the season," Siuslaw coach Dylan Perry said. "Our defense and intensity really was the story of this game.

"The kids bought into the game plan and executed it well. There were slips here and there throughout the game but that is expected in your second game of the season and still not having a true physically intense practice that is needed early in the year.

"We have a great group of seniors that know what it takes to win games and when they are clicking like they did last night they show why they are one of the top teams in the state."

The Vikings (2-0), who play 14 of their first 17 games on the road, are at North Bend on Monday in an endowment game that will be carried by Coast Radio (FM 106.9), featuring Ryan Stahel and Max Perry.

Siuslaw plays Wednesday at Pleasant Hill and next weekend (Friday and Saturday) at the Harrisburg Tournament.

Newport (1-1) next plays Tuesday at Harrisburg.

Friday, Siuslaw raced to a 20-2 lead after the first quarter, with the Cubs winning the second quarter 17-14 to trail by 15 at halftime, 34-19.

Newport has a rematch with Siuslaw Dec. 14 at Glenn Butler Court.

Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson says the school will be offering a season pass for $30. Details to come. Siuslaw has seven remaining scheduled home games, two preleague and five Sky-Em League.

Elsewhere Friday:

No. 1-ranked Marshfield (1-0) opened its season with a 56-42 victory over Springfield in the Wilsonville Invitational.

North Bend (0-1) opened its season with a 53-32 loss at Roseburg. The Bulldogs play at Creswell on Saturday before returning home for an endowment game Monday against Siuslaw.

Marist (1-0) opened its season with a 65-51 win at North Marion.

Elmira (1-1) beat visiting Pleasant Hill, 51-47.

Junction City (1-0) hosts Philomath on Saturday.

Cottage Grove (1-0) next plays Tuesday at Pleasant Hill.
