Siuslaw girls 5th, boys 11th in tournament


Siuslaw senior wrestlers Bailey Overton and Hayden Muller won individual titles Saturday to lead the Lady Vikings to a fifth-place finish in the 21-school Perry Burlison Girls Tournament at Cascade High School in Turner.

Siuslaw's eight-athlete team scored 110 points. McKay, with a tournament-high 22 entries, was first with 236, followed by Sweet Home with 175.

In the boys' tournament, Siuslaw junior Mason Buss won the 170-pound title as the Vikings' undermanned contingent of five placed 11th in a field of 20 schools with 56 points.

Crook County, with 14 entries, was first with 250 and Thurston, with 15 entries, was second with 201.

Overton pinned all three of her opponents and earned 26 team points at 120 pounds, while Muller pinned her two opponents and scored 24 team points at 145.

The Lady Vikings also had a pair of second-place finishers, Macali Cade at 110 and Makayla Freeman at 135.

Buss pinned his first three opponents to reach the finals, where he beat Benjamin Rintoul of Scappoose by decision, 3-1. Buss scored 28 team points, or half the Vikings' final total.

The Vikings next will compete in the North Bend Coast Classic, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 10-11.
