The Pleasant Hill Billies, scoring most of their points on lay-ins, rolled to a 41-12 victory over the Siuslaw Vikings in nonleague girls basketball Tuesday at Glenn Butler Court.

"In comparison to our first game with Pleasant Hill, a 51-10 loss, we are continuing to show small steps of improvement," Siuslaw coach Aaron McNeill said.

"I was pleased with our half court zone defense. I think it created some issues for Pleasant Hill. We are getting better defensively. We just gave up too many transition baskets and second opportunities, especially in the second half."

Freshman Rhianna Lane had a team-high 4 points, sophomore Cate Waggoner a team-high 6 rebounds and sophomore Jane Lacouture at team-high 5 steals.

"Offensively, we executed well at times, but unfortunately could not reward ourselves by hitting shots," McNeill said. "We didn't have very many offensive rebounds and that limited our possessions and shot opportunities. 

"We are narrowing the gap, but have to find ways to score consistently to be competitive on the scoreboard."

The Lady Vikings (0-10) open the Newport Tournament at 3:30 p.m. next Tuesday against 5A Thurston.

Pleasant Hill (4-4) closes the calendar year Thursday, Dec. 30, hosting Westside Christian.

The Lady Billies led 9-2 after the first quarter, 17-5 at halftime and 32-8 after three quarters.

The Lady Billies and the Lady Vikings both will be members of the 3A Mountain Valley Conference for at least the next four school years.
