The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team rolled to a 58-47 victory over the South Umpqua Bulldogs in the opening round of the Newport Tournament on Thursday.

Seniors Avery Hart had 16 points, Brody Terry 13 and Braydon Thornton 11 to combine for 40 points.

"It was a very physical game that we were able to pull away with in the second half," Siuslaw coach Dylan Perry said. "We played team basketball and shared the ball on offense.

"We still  need to improve our ball security and defensive rebounding. Most importantly, we won the game."

The Vikings (5-3) will play the winner of the the Newport-Taft game in the championship game on Friday.

The 3A Lancers fell to 4-2 on the season.
