The Siuslaw Vikings have dug themselves a big hole on the road to the OSAA Class 4A boys basketball playoffs.

Tuesday, the Vikings (6-8 overall) fell to 0-2 in the Sky-Em League with a 83-47 loss to Marshfield in Coos Bay.

Marshfield — currently No. 2 in both the OSAA computer rankings and in the OSAAtoday 4A coaches poll — improved to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in league.

The Pirates raced to a 20-3 lead after the first quarter, the Vikings' points on a nothing-but-net 3-pointer from senior guard Brody Terry.

Marshfield opened a 24-point halftime lead, 38-14, and led by 27 after three quarters, 59-32. The sloppy fourth quarter featured 25 free throws, 14 by the Pirates.

Terry led the Vikings with 22 points, going 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the second half.

Mason Ainsworth had 26 points, Pierce Davidson 13 and Mason Pederson 11 and all 11 Pirates scored in the win.

Both the boys and girls games Friday against Elmira have been postponed because of covid concerns.

Elsewhere in league play Tuesday, No. 1-ranked Junction City defeated visiting Marist, 63-49, while Cottage Grove rolled at Elmira, 70-48.

NOTES

The Vikings have played 14 games this season, only three at home. ... Marshfield has an 11-player varsity roster — all seniors. ...
