The Siuslaw Vikings cheerleaders expect to qualify for state competitions, but they may have to do it the new-fashioned way.

"We are working with Kelly Foster, our cheer representative with the OSAA, and Sarah Devereaux, the OCCA president, on submitting videos next week to be evaluated and scored to clear us for state," Vikings coach Teri Straley said.

The Vikings had been scheduled to compete in a state-qualifying event in Springfield this weekend, but had to cancel because of covid concerns.

"We are planning on attending the state and championships in person on Feb. 12 and Feb. 19," Straley said.

The all-classifications Oregon School Activities Association state championships are Feb. 12 at Oregon City High School.

The Oregon Cheerleading Coaches Association championships are Feb. 19 in Salem.
