The Siuslaw Vikings girls basketball team had its best offensive showing of the season in falling to the Cottage Grove Lions, 58-21, in a Sky-Em League game Friday at Glenn Butler Court.

"Not the outcome we hoped for on the scoreboard, but we did score more than 20 points for the first time of the season," Siuslaw coach Aaron McNeill said. "Denali Sleeper had one of her better games of the season, leading the team in scoring with 7 points and rebounding with 5. 

"I was really pleased at times with how we executed our press break, something we have struggled with this season. When we did execute our press break, we were poised and utilized good passing and teamwork — scoring against Cottage Grove's press several times. I was pleased with the fact we competed to the end. We still have lots of work to do, but the girls are eager to get better and put in the work to improve."

Siuslaw (0-16 overall, 0-3 in league) hosts Elmira at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Cottage Grove improved to 6-10 and 2-2. The Lions led 18-5 after the first quarter, 38-13 at halftime and 52-13 through three quarters.

Gracie Arnold scored a game-high 22 points for Cottage Grove.

Siuslaw has seven games in the final three weeks of the season, including three games next week.

The Lady Vikings have three games in four days next week — Elmira on Tuesday, at Marshfield on Wednesday and at home against Marist on Friday.
