The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team is on the cusp of the Oregon School Activities Association Class 4A abyss.

Saturday, the Vikings fell to visiting Cottage Grove, 54-37, dropping to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in the Sky-Em League.

Senior Avery Hart led the Vikings with 15 points, while senior Brody Terry hit three 3-pointers for 9 points.

The Vikings' chances for a state playoff berth took a significant hit.

Cottage Grove, on the other hand, improved to 11-6 and 2-3, placing the Lions in good shape to advance to the play-in round of the OSAA playoffs.

Siuslaw has a chance to hold serve Tuesday when the Vikings host the Elmira Falcons, 0-4 in league and 2-11 overall.

The Vikings play at No. 1-ranked Junction City on Wednesday and host Marist on Friday to close the first half of league play.

Cottage Grove led from start to finish, 16-10 after the first quarter, 32-19 at halftime and 45-26 after three quarters.
