Lady Vikings' Hayden Muller top seed at 135

Siuslaw Vikings senior wrestler Hayden Muller is seeded No. 1 at 135 pounds and freshman Macali Lade No. 2 at 110 at Saturday's Girls Southern Regional at Cottage Grove.

Muller is 11-3 for the season, Lade 9-6.

The Lady Vikings have two other competitors in the regionals, both at 130 pounds — sophomore Makayla Freeman (12-2) and senior Brooke Olson (10-9).

The Southern Regional is one of four tournaments which will send the top three finishers in the 14 weight classes to the 6A/5A/4A/3A/2A/1A state championships Thursday, Feb. 24, at Culver High School.

Some 134 wrestlers from 41 schools are entered in the Southern Regional, including 16 from Thurston and 14 from Sweet Home.

The Vikings boys will  host the Class 4A District 2 Regional next week, with the state championship Saturday, Feb. 26, at Cascade High School in Turner.

STAYTON TOPS VIKINGS, 44-18

Stayton won four of the seven weight classes contested Thursday, rolling to a 44-18 victory on Senior Night at Siuslaw.

The other seven weight classes were either forfeits or double forfeits.

The Vikings' Cort Waggoner pinned Owen Platt in 1 minute, 17 seconds to win the 220-pound division, while Jesus Garcia scored a 12-11 decision at 170 pounds and Mason Buss a 4-0 decision at 182.
