Vikings will play in 7-school football league


The Class 3A Mountain Valley Conference for football will be seven schools after all, including the Siuslaw Vikings.

The Vikings play Creswell, Elmira, Harrisburg, La Pine, Pleasant Hill and Sisters, starting next school year.

Harrisburg's request to play down a classification has been denied in the latest proposed alignment by the Oregon School Activities Association ad hoc football committee.

The committee added a final meeting, Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Class 3A, for schools with average daily memberships (enrollment) of 146 to 310 students, includes 37 schools in five leagues.

Other leagues include:

Coastal Range League (7 schools) — Banks, Corbett, Newport, Rainier, Warrenton, Valley Catholic and Yamhill-Carlton.

PacWest Conference (8 schools) — Amity, Dayton, Jefferson, Kennedy, North Marion, Salem Academy, Santiam Christian and Scio.

Far West League (10 schools) — Brookings-Habor, Cascade Christian, Coqullle, Douglas, Lakeview, North Valley, Phoenix, South Umpqua, St. Mary's (Medford) and Sutherlin.

Eastern Oregon League (5 schools) — Burns, McLoughlin, Nyssa-Harper Charter, Ontario and Vale.

The 3A special districts includes 4A schools Newport, North Marion, Phoenix and Ontario and 2A schools Kennedy and Salem Academy.
