The Marshfield Pirates girls basketball team moved into a tie for second place in the Sky-Em League on Tuesday with a 44-12 victory over the Siuslaw Vikings at Glenn Butler Court.

"It was another challenging game, but I'm proud to say that the girls continued to compete and play hard until the very end," Siuslaw coach Aaron McNeill said.

"It says a lot about their character. They continue to show grit and determination to compete and improve."

The Lady Pirates improved to 5-2 in league, tied with Marist, which dropped a 32-30 decision to Junction City on Tuesday.

The Lady Vikings fell to 0-20 overall and 0-7 in league with three games to play, just one at home.

Freshman Jolee Erickson scored six of the Lady Vikings' 12 points.

"Jolee provides a lot of energy and quickness and has the ability to create problems defensively," McNeill said. "(Sophomore) Jane Lacouture had one of her better rebounding games of the season."

Siuslaw hosts Junction City this coming Tuesday on Senior Night for the Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings are at Elmira this coming Friday and complete their season Friday, Feb. 18, at Cottage Grove.

NOTES

There are three seniors on the Lady Vikings roster — Haylee Cole, Gracie Perkins and Denali Sleeper. …

Both the Class 4A boys and girls state tournaments have been moved to Marshfield and North Bend for the quarterfinals through finals March 10-12 after Forest Grove bowed out. …
