Vikings host district today with eye on state


The Siuslaw Vikings have five wrestlers seeded in the top four as the Class 4A Special District 2 wrestling championships get underway at 10 a.m. today at Glenn Butler Court.

No. 3 seeds are Yoskar De la Mora at 126 pounds and Mason Buss at 160 pounds, while Hunter Petterson (138), Dayne Muller (195) and Cort Waggoner (220) are No. 4 seeds.

The top four placers in each of the 14 weight classes advance to the Oregon School Activities Association 4A championships Saturday, Feb 26, at Cascade High School in Turner.

Other schools competing today include Cascade, Elmira/Crow, Junction City, Newport, Philomath, Stayton and Sweet Home, the No. 1-ranked team in the OSAAtoday 4A coaches poll.

MEMORIAL FOR COACH FORSYTHE

A memorial for assistant coach and Dunes City mayor Robert Forsythe is being planned for Monday, Feb. 21 (Presidents Day) at the Florence Events Center, time to be announced.
