It's been 90 days since the Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team began practice for the 2021-22 season.

The team will play the second half of its Sky-Em League season in the next five days, starting Monday at Elmira.

"It's been a challenging season for our guys for lots of reasons," Siuslaw coach Dylan Perry said. "They are competitors, though."

Tuesday will begin a stretch of three home games, No. 1-ranked Junction City at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Marist at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday and Marshfield at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, which is Senior Night for the boys.

The Vikings close the season Friday at Cottage Grove.

Siuslaw is 6-11 for the season and 0-5 in the first half of league play. The Vikings are ranked No. 29 among 34 Class 4A schools.

Still, the Vikings have an outside chance at the playoffs with four or five wins.

"They will be ready to give it their all down the stretch," Perry said.

ROUGH WATERS FOR COAST RADIO

The many schedule changes for Vikings basketball due to the covid pandemic has hit Coast Radio hard.

"It's the worst sports season we have ever dealt with," general manager Jon Thompson said.

"We have not been able to plan anything more than 24 hours out."

The final week of regular-season play will be an adventure.

"I wished I could tell you if we will have all those games on the or or not, but it's literally been day to day," Thompson said.

Next year should be better, he hopes.

"We are doing everything possible to try and have fiber by next fall," Thompson said. "They are building out here, but it's taking time.

"I hope this is the last year we have to go through this."
