Coast Radio to air 22 of 25 Vikings games

KCST's Wayne Sharpe will travel near and far to bring Siuslaw Vikings baseball games to Florence.

Coast Radio is going the distance for Siuslaw Vikings baseball this season, airing 22 of 25 games — three in Southern Oregon.

"We will air all other games on the current schedule, including games at Mazama and Klamath Union," general manager Jon Thompson announced Tuesday.

The Voice of the Vikings, Wayne Sharpe, lobbied for the trip south.

"It's going to be an added expense for sure, but we know there's a good chance they will get those games in during March, which is always a challenge for us here," Thompson said.

"It's also a long way for parents and fans to travel, so we expect good listenership."

First up is the second game of this coming Tuesday's season-opening doubleheader at Sutherlin.

The first game of the twin bill, the first game of the Pleasant Hill doubleheader April 1 and the Creswell game April 5 will not be aired.

Sharpe will be joined this season by Siuslaw graduate Caleb Paredes, a former Vikings player and the son of Sharpe's old broadcast buddy, Randy Paredes.
