Coast Radio delays season-opening game

The Siuslaw Vikings baseball schedule springs forward this week, but already the weather threatens to make it fall back.

Coast Radio has cancelled its season-opening broadcast for Tuesday at Sutherlin.

"It is currently raining hard in Sutherlin, and it's expected to continue overnight into tomorrow," Coast Radio general manager Jon Thompson said Monday. "There is a chance for a break in the afternoon, but not sure if field conditions will allow the game to be played."

Sutherlin does not have a press box, exposing the broadcast team of Wayne Sharpe and Caleb Paredes and their equipment to the elements.

"We have decided even if they are able to pull it off, we will not be airing the game," Thompson said.

The Vikings are scheduled for three games at Klamath Falls this weekend, a single game Friday at Mazama and a doubleheader Saturday at Klamath Union.

Rain and snow are in the forecast for Klamath Falls.
