Vikings runners assigned to special districts

The Oregon School Activities Association has opened the scheduling portals for the 2022-23 school year, and Siuslaw cross country coach Chris Johnson already is beginning to fill his dance card.

The Vikings have two dates set — Sept. 17 at the Northwest Classic in Eugene and Oct. 1 with the school's featured Woahink Lake Invitational.

Siuslaw will be in a 14-school 3A special district for boys and a 32-school 3A/2A/1A special district for girls.

The Vikings boys have been assigned 3A Special District 4, competing with Brookings-Harbor, Cascade Chistian, Coquille, Creswell, Douglas, Elmira, Glide, Lakeview, North Valley, Pleasant Hill, South Umpqua, St. Mary's (Medford) and Sutherlin.

St. Mary's and Cascade Christian represented the district in last fall's state championship, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively, in a nine-school field.

Enterprise easily won the team title.

The Lady Vikings are in 3A/2A/1A Special District 4, which includes defending state champion Bandon. Reedsport also is in the district.

Siuslaw won both the boys and girls 4A state titles last fall, but will not be back to defend.

Vikings boys soccer has been assigned 3A/2A/1A Special District 3, which includes eight 3A schools, two 2A and four 1A.

The 3A schools include Creswell, Elmira, Jefferson, La Pine, Pleasant Hill, Santiam Christian, Sisters and Siuslaw.

The 2A schools are Central Linn and East Linn Christian Academy, and the 1A schools are Crosshill Christian, Eddyville Charter, Kings Valley Charter and Mohawk.
